Volunteer Opportunities​

Trail-Side Facilities

  • Building benches: Construct Aldo Leopold Benches for the Trail with an approved placement plan

  • Building kiosks: Work with the Ozaukee Interurban Trail Advisory Council, We Energies, and local municipality on the design, construction, and placement of kiosks

  • Wayfinding Signage: Work with the Ozaukee Interurban Trail Advisory Council to construct wayfinding signage

Trail Maintenance

  • Sweeping "crossing" areas for gravel and debris

  • Minor shrub and tree pruning for Trail clearance

  • Pick up and dispose/recycle garbage, bottles, cans, etc.

Natural Resources

  • Invasive species control: Work with the Trail Advisory Council, We Energies, Ozaukee County Planning and Parks, Ozaukee County Land and Water, and local municipalities to control / remove invasive species identified along the Trail

  • Replant native species (wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, trees):  Work with the Trail Advisory Council, We Energies, Ozaukee County Planning and Parks, Ozaukee County Land and Water, and local municipalities to replant target areas with designated and approved plant species; target areas will include those being controlled for invasive species

  • Water Quality Monitoring: Work with the Trail Advisory Council, We Energies, Ozaukee County Planning and Parks, Ozaukee County Land and Water, and local municipalities to monitor water quality at designated sites

Trail Usage Surveys

  • Passive: Count the number and type of Trail users at a given time(s)

  • Intensive: Count and interview Trail users in regards to type of usage, frequency of usage, timing of usage, purpose of usage, etc. (survey forms will be provided)

Donations for Trail Projects

  • Donations (cash or materials) for the construction of benches, bike racks/business bike rack programs, kiosks, wayfinding signage, road crossing signage (name of road), mileage markers, trail stripping/painting, garbage cans, and interpretive (historical or environmental/resource) signage

  • Donations (cash and/or land) for parking facilities near the Trail

  • Donations (cash and in-kind) for marketing, advertising, and printing items

  • Donations for website enhancements and development

  • Donations (cash and in-kind) for Trail events (giveaways, etc.)

  • Donations for the production of Trail maps, birding maps, etc.

Historical and Cultural Donations

  • Donations of Interurban Trail relevant historical or cultural items
